Good news! Yesterday we had no air raid sirens. That was a nice break. The peacefulness ended this morning just before seven with a siren. My alarm was set to go of at 7:30 so it wasn't too bad. (I thought alarm clocks were rude!)
We took our written exam in pediatrics today at the hospital. Never thought I would be taking an exam in a bomb shelter. I'm sure some day I will look back on this and laugh. I'm just not sure when. :) We're all trying to maintain focus and some semblance of normalcy. There is still some laughing but mostly it's nervous laughter. WE had two sirens during the exam but they gave us extra time to make up for it. I find that my concentration pretty much goes out the window when the sirens are going off but God is still faithful. I think the exam went okay and if it didn't, I'll just have to retake it.
On Sunday we start our surgery round. It should be interesting - especially if things continue as they are. Today as I went to the exam, I walked by the helicopter landing pad at the hospital. There are gurneys lined up along the path out to the landing pad in preparation for the mass casualties that go with war. The emergency room has new barricades in front and the army is helping to man the security stations into the hospital to prevent suicide bombers from entering. It all makes me so sad and I wonder what God is thinking as he looks down on us.
Below is a picture of a rocket that struck near my house on Wednesday. It looks worse than it was. These rockets don't explode but they come in so fast and are so heavy they do leave a big cloud of debris behind. It was a scary experience but I was wrapped up safe and tight in my bomb shelter. My landlord called later to see how I was doing and to reassure me that he built the bomb shelter himself and made sure it exceeded all the codes for safety. He's really a nice man. His wife is from Seattle so his English is great and he understands Americans pretty well. I'm thankful for that.
Well, lots to do while the sirens are not wailing. Thanks to you all for your prayers and encouragement.
Blessings,
peggy
